Application Requirements by Program

In addition to the general graduate program application, each program may have specific requirements and deadlines.  Please check below for your program of interest.

Deadlines & Requirements

American Studies

Deadline: Rolling

Art Therapy Specialization (Creative Arts Therapy)

  • Three letters of recommendation (instead of two)
  • 20-Piece portfolio in PowerPoint format on CD-ROM demonstrating competency in two and three dimensional work. Exceptions to this format by Program Director Approval only.
  • Prerequisite Coursework:
    • Studio Art, 18 credit hours
    • Psychology, 12 credit hours following areas: Introduction to Psychology or General Psychology, Abnormal Psychology and Personality Theory
  • Resume
  • Interview - Program Director will contact qualified applicants.

Deadline: January 15 for fall term.

Education - Additional/Professional Certification (Art, Educational Technology, Inclusive Ed, Literacy Education, Music, and TESOL Education)

For those applicants with (or in the process of applying for) New York State Education Teacher Certification: For ALL Additional/Professional Certification Programs*:

  • Photocopies of all teacher certifications you presently hold if available at the time of application


Additional Requirements for Art Education:

  • Art Portfolio on CD-ROM (see portfolio guidelines)
    • not required for Nazareth College Alumni holding B.S. in Art with Teacher Certification
  • Resume (two copies)
  • Interview - Program Director will contact qualified applicants.


Additional Requirements for Music Education: *Audition Dates for 2014-2015:

    • Spring 2015: Contact the Office of Graduate Admissions for more information
    • Summer/Fall 2015: Friday, March 6,2015 between 9am-noon - contact Dr. Mary Carlson at mcarlso3@naz.edu for audition information.


Additional/Professional Certification Deadlines: March 1 for summer term; April 1 for summer & fall term; October 1 for spring term

*Teacher Certification in appropriate subject area/level as designated in the Graduate Catalog. Inclusive Changing Level and TESOL programs may require additional prerequisite Coursework as listed in the Graduate Catalog.

Education - Initial Certification (Art, Inclusive, Music, TESOL Education)

For those applicants whose undergraduate degree did not lead to Teacher Certification:

Deadlines: March 1 for summer term*; April 1 for fall term; October 1 for spring term. Applications received after the stated deadline will be reviewed on a space-available basis. *Summer start term NOT available for Inclusive Education Initial Certification Programs.

Additional Requirements for Art Education:

Additional Requirements for Music Education (Fall start term only. Extended Program - Initial/Professional Cert):


*All Initial Certification programs require an evaluation of prerequisite Liberal Arts and Sciences coursework for New York State Teacher Certification. Outstanding prerequisite coursework needs to be completed before you can begin your student teaching semester and be recommended for certification through Nazareth College. If you have any questions about your prerequisite Liberal Arts and Sciences coursework or required tests for certification, please contact Patricia Huntington, Director of Academic Support Services, School of Education at 585-389-2051, or e-mail phuntin6@naz.edu.

Higher Education Student Affairs Administration

*Students who select the "Management & Organization" electives cluster must show completion of an "Organization and Management" course with a grade of "C" or higher

International TESOL (TESOL for International Educators)

  • Interview - Program Director will contact qualified applicants.
  • Required test scores for international applicants:
    • 550 on the paper-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
    • 79 on the Internet-based Test TOEFL (a minimum of 25 on the speaking portion is required).
    • 6.5 on the English Language Testing System (IELTS)

For those with international transcripts:

*Transcripts must be translated to English.

*A review of your transcript by a reputable evaluation service is required (such as World Education Service, Educational Credential Evaluations, or Josef Silny & Associates) at the expense of the student.

Management

Music Therapy Specialization (Creative Arts Therapy)

  • A live audition of student's primary instrument
  • Demonstration of basic proficiency on the piano and guitar
  • Prerequisite Coursework (9 credit hours): Intro Psychology, Intro to Music Therapy, and Psychology of Music (may be taken concurrently with graduate Music Therapy coursework)
  • Resume
  • Interview - Program Director will contact qualified applicants.

Deadlines: April 1 for fall term; October 1 for spring term

Physical Therapy

Apply online only at www.ptcas.org.

Prerequisite Coursework:

  • 8 credits of Anatomy and Physiology (includes laboratory)
  • 8 credits of Chemistry (includes laboratory)
  • 8 credits of Physics (includes laboratory)
  • 3 credits of Statistics (psychology-based)
  • 6 credits of Psychology (One course is in a developmental psychology course is preferred)

Deadline: Nov. 1 for summer start term

Post-Baccalaurate Certification in Pre-Med, Pre-Dental and Pre-Vet Studies

Social Work

Speech Language Pathology

  • Completed online application
  • Completion of the professional statement as described on the application
  • Official transcripts from all colleges attended
    • Applicant must have completed, or will be completing, a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution with a cumulative index of 3.0 and "B" average in the major field by the start date of the desired term.
    • An applicant who does not meet these grade point average expectations must address them in his/her professional statement; please see the Professional Statement section of the admissions application for further information.
  • Two letters of recommendation (minimum)
  • Official GRE scores
  • Copy of supervised observation and clinical hours where applicable
  • Copy of verification of teacher certification from the TEACH system where applicable
  • Resume
